Propolis is a natural antiseptic substance produced by bees to isolate the cells of the hive. It thus limits the entry of air, water, bacteria, viruses and pathogens. It appears as a rubbery, sticky and water-insoluble resin. It can be made up of over 200 different compounds including resins, wax, essential oils, pollen, flavonoids, organic compounds, mineral salts, vitamins and other elements. Its composition depends on the type of vegetation from which the bees obtain the starting material to process it and for this reason it varies in color and flavor.

Propolis is attributed with antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and natural immunostimulant properties, all due in particular to the presence of flavonoids (Galangin and Pinocembrin).
