The macrogol 3350, which is also written as polyethylene glycol, is a large molecule that the intestine does not absorb and intestinal bacteria they don't ferment. It remains in the lumen and retains water with a osmotic mechanism: the feces soften because they contain more water, and the transit starts again on its own. This is why it does not cause the cramps typical of laxatives that stimulate the intestinal wall to contract.
The fact that it does not ferment also explains the other difference that is noticed in its use: no bloating and no gas, which instead often accompany bulk laxatives based on fibre. It is the reason why macrogol has become the first choice in chronic constipation, even in young children, and for which the dosage here starts from 6 months.
The novelty of this format lies in the sachet. Contains 10 g, twice the size of the classic sachet, and it is divisible: open two half doses of 5 g. A whole sachet dissolves in 125 ml of water, half in 62.5 ml. Thus, a single pack covers both the small child, who takes one or two 5 g doses a day, and the child or adult, who takes one to three full doses.
The box bill changes accordingly: 20 sachets of 10 g they do 200 g of product, double the 100 g of the previous package. The dust is gluten free e lactose free, and the product is a medical device CE 0426.
