Hydrogen Peroxide 10 Volumes it is a solution of hydrogen peroxide al 3% in the bottle from 200ml. The two numbers on the label, i 10 volumes and 3%, are not two different pieces of information: they are the same data written in two ways.

«Ten volumes» is the ancient way, and still the most used in pharmacy, of saying how strong a solution of hydrogen peroxide is: it means that a volume of liquid can release ten volumes of oxygen gaseous as it decomposes. Ten volumes correspond to a concentration of approximately 3% by weight, and is the classic concentration of the over-the-counter bottle. The acronyms F.U. next to the name they say that the composition follows the monograph of the Official Pharmacopoeia.

The foam that forms as soon as the liquid touches a wound is the part that everyone knows, and it is a precise reaction. Blood and tissues contain an enzyme, la catalase, which breaks hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen in a fraction of a second. The bubbles are that oxygen that goes away, and as they rise they drag out of the wound what is inside: it is amechanical action, as well as chemistry.

What remains after the reaction is only water and oxygen, and this is the reason why hydrogen peroxide leaves no residue on the skin. It applies in modest quantity, directly or with a cotton ball.

One last thing, which explains why the bottle is what it is: hydrogen peroxide decomposes on its own, and light and heat they speed things up. It's the reason why the bottle is dark and must be kept away, and it's also the reason why a bottle that's been open for a long time makes less foam: it's not that the wound is clean, it's that the product has weakened.
