Okitask 10 granulated sachets 40 mg belongs to a group of medicines called "Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs" (NSAIDs) that can be purchased without a medical prescription. The active ingredient of Okitask 10 granulated sachets 40 mg, ketoprofen, works by blocking the chemical substances that normally cause inflammation in our body .

How to take Okitask 10 sachets?

For adults and over 15 years of age, the recommended dose of Okitask 10 buccal sachets 40 mg is 40 mg, corresponding to 1 sachet. The assumption of Okitask 10 granulated sachets 40 mg can be repeated 2-3 times a day in case of more intense painful forms. Do not exceed the recommended doses.

In the elderly the dosage of Okitask 10 granulated sachets 40 mg must be carefully established taking into consideration a possible reduction of the above dosages.

The safety and efficacy of Okitask 10 sachets granules 40 mg in pediatric children have not yet been established.

In patients with hepatic or renal insufficiency, a minimum daily dose therapy of Okitask 10 buccal sachets 40 mg and careful monitoring is recommended. In case of renal insufficiency it is recommended to control the volume of urine output and renal function. Okitask 10 granulated sachets 40 mg should not be used in patients with severe liver or kidney dysfunction.

Contraindications of Okitask 10 granulated sachets 40 mg.

When should Okitask 10 sachets 10 granules 40 mg not be taken?

Okitask 40 mg granules should not be administered in the following cases:

• Hypersensitivity to the active substance, to other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or to any of the excipients, listed in section 6.1;
• Asthma, bronchospasm, acute rhinitis, urticaria, skin rashes, nasal polyps, angioneurotic edema or other allergic-type reactions caused by ketoprofen, or medicines with a similar mechanism of action
• Previous bronchial asthma;
• Severe heart failure
• Gastritis
• Active peptic ulcer/haemorrhage or history of recurrent peptic ulcer/haemorrhage
• Previous history of gastrointestinal bleeding, ulceration or perforation, or chronic dyspepsia
• History of gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation following previous NSAID therapy
• Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis
• Severe liver failure
• Severe renal insufficiency
• Leukopenia and thrombocytopenia
• Bleeding diathesis and other coagulation disorders, haemostatic disorders
• Using a high dose of diuretics;
• Third trimester of pregnancy
• Children under 15

Okitask 10 buccal sachets 40 mg can cause undesirable effects of various kinds. The most commonly observed are those of a gastrointestinal nature. Peptic ulcers, perforation or gastrointestinal bleeding, sometimes fatal, particularly in the elderly, may occur. The frequency and extent of these effects are significantly reduced by taking Okitask 10 granulated sachets 40 mg. on a full stomach . In exceptional cases, manifestations of hypersensitivity can take on the character of severe systemic reactions. Okitask 10 granulated sachets 40 mg in pregnancy and breastfeeding

Can I take Okitask 10 granulated sachets 40 mg when pregnant or breastfeeding?

The use of ketoprofen, the active ingredient of Okitask 10 granulated sachets 40 mg, during the first and second trimester of pregnancy should be avoided. Ketoprofen administration should only be considered if the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the risk to the embryo or foetus. Inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis may adversely affect pregnancy and/or embryo/foetal development.

Results of epidemiological studies suggest an increased risk of miscarriage and of cardiac malformation and gastroschisis after the use of a prostaglandin synthesis inhibitor in the early stages of pregnancy. The absolute risk of cardiac malformations increased from less than 1% to approximately 1.5%. The risk was thought to increase with dose and duration of therapy.

Therefore ketoprofen should not be administered during the first and second trimester of pregnancy unless strictly necessary. If ketoprofen is used by a woman attempting to conceive, or during the first and second trimester of pregnancy, the dosage should be kept as low as possible for the shortest possible duration of treatment.

During the third trimester of pregnancy, all prostaglandin synthesis inhibitors may expose the fetus to cardiopulmonary toxicity and renal dysfunction, which may progress to renal failure with oligohydramnios. For the mother and the newborn, possible prolongations of bleeding time and antiplatelet effect can be observed at the end of pregnancy (even at very low doses). An inhibition of uterine contractions resulting in delayed or prolonged labor may also be observed. The use of Okitask 10 granulated sachets 40 mg near delivery can cause alterations in the haemodynamics of the small circulation of the unborn child, with serious consequences for breathing. For this reason, ketoprofen is contraindicated during the third trimester of pregnancy.

There is no information available on the excretion of ketoprofen in breast milk. Ketoprofen is not recommended during breastfeeding .

The use of NSAIDs, of which Okitask 10 granulated sachets 40 mg is a part, can reduce female fertility. Therefore it is not recommended in women attempting to become pregnant. The administration of NSAIDs, as well as Okitask 10 granulated sachets 40 mg, must be suspended in women who have fertility problems or who are undergoing fertility investigations.
