However, it is advisable not to use soft contact lenses during therapy, because they can accumulate the preservative contained in the preparation. Tirocular contains benzalkonium chloride: Benzalkonium chloride can be absorbed by soft contact lenses and can lead to changes in their color. Contact lenses must be removed before using this medicine and can be reinserted 15 minutes after administration. Cases of eye irritation, dry eye, alteration of the corneal film and surface have been reported following ophthalmic administration of benzalkonium chloride. Use with caution in patients with dry eye and corneal damage. Generally, children's eyes react more markedly than adult eyes. Irritation in children may therefore interfere with adherence to therapy.
